About

A local planning service, not a travel portal.

BosniaLocal exists because Bosnia is easy to visit badly and rewarding to visit well, and the difference is almost always the route.

What we do

We plan trips in Bosnia and Herzegovina. That is the whole business. Someone tells us when they are coming, where they land and what they care about, and we turn it into a route with the right number of nights in the right places, in an order that does not waste days on the road.

Alongside that, we publish the guides on this site. They cover the same ground we work through when planning: how long the country needs, when to come, what the roads are really like, which towns deserve a night and which are better as a stop.

Why local matters here

A lot of what is written about Bosnia online is assembled from other articles about Bosnia. It repeats the same short list of sights, understates driving times and gives the impression that the country is Sarajevo, Mostar and a waterfall.

Planning from inside the country changes the detail. You know that a road on the map is a mountain pass, that a town looks different on a market morning than on a Sunday, that a place worth two hours is being sold as a full day, and that some of the best hours of a trip are spent in a cafe rather than at a monument.

  • We plan across the whole country, not only the two cities most visitors see
  • Advice reflects the current state of roads, transport and seasons, not a guidebook from years ago
  • We say when something is not worth the detour, which a commission based business cannot afford to do

How we stay independent

We sell one thing: the trip plan. We do not take commissions from hotels, we do not resell tours or transfers, and we do not accept payment for inclusion in a guide or an itinerary. When a plan recommends an area or a route, that is the reason it is there.

It also means we can tell you not to buy something. If your trip is straightforward enough to plan yourself with the free guides on this site, we would rather say so.

How we write

The guides aim to be specific and honest, including about the parts of a trip that are less comfortable: the summer crowds in Mostar, the winter air in the Sarajevo valley, the bus timetables that do not connect neatly. Recent history is treated as part of the country rather than as an attraction, and we point people toward the places that explain it properly.

Anything factual that changes with the seasons is written in a way that will still be true next year. Where a detail depends on the day, we say so instead of inventing precision.
